FAQ

  • How long should I burn my candle?
For optimal burning and safety, it is recommended to burn your Jovons Candles N Wax candle for 1-4 hours at a time. This allows the wax to melt evenly and prevents tunneling, which is when the candle burns straight down the middle, leaving the sides untouched. Always trim the wick to 1/4 inch before lighting to minimize smoke and soot. Additionally, never leave a burning candle unattended and ensure it is placed on a heat-resistant surface away from drafts, flammable materials, and out of reach of children and pets. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when 2 inches of wax remains (½ inch if a container candle or jar candle).
  • What causes a candle to smoke and what can I do to correct it?
There are a few factors that can cause a candle to smoke. One common reason is the presence of a draft or air flow around the candle, which disrupts the flame and causes it to flicker and produce smoke. Another possible cause is a wick that is too long, leading to an oversized flame that creates excessive smoke. Additionally, using a low-quality or improperly trimmed wick can also contribute to smoking. To correct this issue, start by trimming the wick to 1/4 inch before each use to prevent the formation of a large flame and excessive smoke. Make sure to place the candle away from drafts or open windows to avoid disrupting the flame. If you notice smoking despite these precautions, extinguish the candle, trim the wick, and then relight it. If smoking continues, consider using a candle snuffer instead of blowing out the flame to reduce smoke. At Jovons Candles N Wax, we understand the importance of clean-burning candles and use high-quality materials to minimize smoking. Our candles are crafted with properly sized and lead-free wicks, and we provide guidance on proper candle care to ensure an optimal burning experience for our customers.
  • How do I take care of my candle?
To ensure the best burn and longevity of your Jovons Candles N Wax candle, it's essential to follow these care instructions: - On the first burn, allow the candle to create a full melt pool, which means the wax is completely melted to the edges of the container. This usually takes about 2-3 hours, depending on the size of the candle. - Keep the wick trimmed to about 1/4 inch before each burn to prevent smoking and mushrooming. - Avoid burning the candle for more than 4 hours at a time. - Always place the candle on a heat-resistant surface and away from drafts, flammable materials, children, and pets. - Stop burning the candle when there is approximately 1/2 inch of wax left at the bottom to prevent overheating the container. - If the candle is not burning evenly, you can carefully pour off excess liquid wax to help maintain an even burn. By following these care instructions, you can enjoy your Jovons Candles N Wax candle while ensuring its safety and optimal performance.
  • Is candle soot harmful to my health and indoor air quality?
At Jovons Candles N Wax, we take great care in crafting our candles to minimize soot and potential health risks. We use high-quality, clean-burning soy wax which produce minimal to no soot when properly maintained. Additionally, we only use lead-free wicks and avoid adding potentially harmful additives or dyes to our candles. However, it's important to trim the wick before each use, keep the candle away from drafts, and ensure proper ventilation in the room. By following these simple tips, you can enjoy the ambiance of our candles while minimizing any potential impact on indoor air quality and your health. The minuscule amount of soot produced by a candle is the natural byproduct of incomplete combustion. Candle soot is composed primarily of elemental carbon particles, and is similar to the soot given off by kitchen toasters and cooking oils. These everyday household sources of soot are not considered a health concern, and are chemically different from the soot formed by the burning of diesel fuel, coal, gasoline, etc. The production of candle soot can also be minimized in the following ways: Trim the wick to ¼ inch before every use to promote proper flame height, place the candle away from drafty areas to avoid flame flickering, and ensure that the wax pool is free of debris.
